Test drive of hovercraft Christy 6143 on first ice
One more test drive of hovercraft Christy 6143 was held for a new owner on Monday.
The test drive of the amphibious vehicle was held in the following conditions: first ice, temperature of -3°C, gusty wind 10-12 m/s and high humidity. The hovercraft moved on thin ice, slush, shallow, sand and shore reed. Ability of the amphibian to pass different obstacles such as stones and tires was also tested. All skirt elements didn’t have any hint of damage.
In the process of test drive all hovercraft systems functioned as normal while hull icing was minimal. Despite frequent abrupt starts from water, quick sharp turns, strong gusty wind and training safe piloting methods in adverse weather conditions, only separate stern elements were exposed to icing. 2,5 hours in total were spent on water.
It should be noted that airmobile Christy 6143 has minimal spattering in contrast to similar hovercrafts of other manufacturers. This is not surprising because hovercraft Christy 6143 is really a flying boat, scarcely touching the surface.
