Sea trials of hovercraft Christy 6143 fitted with a new eight-blade thrust propeller
Sea trials of hovercraft Christy 6143 fitted with a new eight-blade thrust propeller were held for customers from Moscow.
The trials have shown that performance, dynamics, thrust of the amphibious vehicle have become better.
The experienced customers, who had operated well-known Khivus, admitted that Christy 6143 surpasses other tested models in comfort, softness of running and amphibious qualities.
Now they are looking forward to their hovercraft delivery to the place of its operation.

Test drive of hovercraft Christy 6143 on first ice
One more test drive of hovercraft Christy 6143 was held for a new owner on Monday.
The test drive of the amphibious vehicle was held in the following conditions: first ice, temperature of -3°C, gusty wind 10-12 m/s and high humidity. The hovercraft moved on thin ice, slush, shallow, sand and shore reed. Ability of the amphibian to pass different obstacles such as stones and tires was also tested. All skirt elements didn’t have any hint of damage.
In the process of test drive all hovercraft systems functioned as normal while hull icing was minimal. Despite frequent abrupt starts from water, quick sharp turns, strong gusty wind and training safe piloting methods in adverse weather conditions, only separate stern elements were exposed to icing. 2,5 hours in total were spent on water.
It should be noted that airmobile Christy 6143 has minimal spattering in contrast to similar hovercrafts of other manufacturers. This is not surprising because hovercraft Christy 6143 is really a flying boat, scarcely touching the surface.
Sea trials of the amphibious hovercraft Christy 6143 with redesigned flexible skirt elements
Christy Hovercraft has held sea trials of the amphibious hovercraft Christy 6143 with redesigned flexible skirt elements.
In course of the test drive various obstacles (scattered stones, floating tires of heavy-duty trucks) were cleared at different speeds, movement on sand surface and skills of operation in reduced visibility in the dark were trained.
During the tests everybody paid attention to incredibly soft running and minimum splattering on water.
Results of the trials:
- More confident start from water with different load
- Improved speed characteristics on water
- Improved hovercraft controllability
- Reduced turn radius
- Increased softness of running
- Increased reliability of the flexible skirt
- Increased safety of the hovercraft operation
Based on the results of the sea trials a list of additions and recommendations was made for the service manual for the end user.
